A large early American firkin with very old dark green paint over the original light green paint. It is remarkably intact except for a crack in the band bordering the lid. The construction is tongue and groove pine staves held together by lapped, fingered wooden bands. The bands are attached by copper brads. The bentwood handle is secured by mushroom knobed pins. The pins are pegged on the interior side to prevent them from detaching. A nice piece! Additional photos are attached by the magnifying glass icon.
